Avengers Infinity War: Guardians Vol 3 director teases MCU future after Avengers 4

By the time Avengers 4 is released in 2019, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have spanned 22 movies over 11 years.

Just three months later a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will be released, set in the immediate aftermath, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is set for 2020.

Marvel President Kevin Feige has previously teased that Avengers 4 will not only act as the final movie in Phase 3 of the MCU, but also the end of Marvel Saga 1.

A fan recently tweeted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 director Gunn asking if it was true the MCU would be ending in some way after Phase 3 or 4.

Gunn replied: “No. Read Kevin Feige’s quotes and not the static around them. It’s the end of one long story & the beginning of another.

“And one of the films that will kickstart the new story will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.”

Last August Gunn revealed how the Guardians threequel will set up the next two decades of Marvel movies.

Speaking in a Facebook Q&A, he said: “One of the things I’m doing with creating Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — it will take place after the next two Avengers movies — and it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe.”

One character who is expected to be a big player in Phase 4 is Adam Warlock, following his tease in a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 end credits scene.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released in UK cinemas on April 27, 2018, followed by Avengers 4 on April 26, 2019 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 in 2020.
