Star Wars 8: Is this the REAL reason Luke Skywalker ‘wants the Jedi to end’?

The Mark Hamill-fronted Star Wars character is set to feature prominently in Episode 8: The Last Jedi, and his headspace has been the subject of much speculation.

YouTuber ‘Star Wars Theory’ has come up with a possible explanation for why he wants the Jedi to end – and it ties-in very strongly with his line in the latest trailer: “I’ve seen this raw strength only once before… it didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.’”

The assumption, of course, is that he’s talking about Kylo Ren and his eventual turn to the Dark Side. But what if he’s speaking about someone else altogether.

“It seems from what I’ve been told that he’s referring to himself: it all started with his father [in Return of the Jedi]; he worked on pure rage to bring Vader down.”

There were echoes of this in Episode 7 when Rey fought Ren.

“Rey was angry when she defeated Kylo in The Force Awakens. When Kylo mentioned the Force, she closed her eyes, clenched her teeth, and defeated Kylo with no training at all.

“I believe she tapped into the Dark Side just like Luke did.”

As explained by Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back, anger and hatred are two big footsteps en route to the Dark Side, and they were feelings used by both Luke and Rey in their respective battles.

So, long story short, does Luke want the Jedi to end so that the conventional Light and Dark Sides can be a thing of the past? Should the so-called Grey Jedi be the new normal?

“That’s why Luke is hesitant to train her,” Star Wars Theory continued. “She’s strong enough to be a Grey Jedi. Kylo was not… he went fully to the Dark; he wasn’t able to stay in between.”

“The Jedi can harness both the light and the dark are truly an unstoppable force.”

It’s certainly a viable theory, and one that follows along nicely from all the other Grey Jedi chatter that’s been going on in the lead-up to The Last Jedi’s release.

The film is out on December 14 in the UK.
