PS4 news: PS5 release date SHOCK, new NBA 2K18 reveal, GTA 5 Online expansion

The PS5 release date has not been announced, however, Sony have confirmed that they will be launching a new console in the future.

It’s not really surprising, based on how well the PS4 and PS4 Pro has performed.

However, some industry representatives believe that gaming could go in a different direction.

Speaking at the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference, Electronic Arts Chris Evenden revealed that streaming could be the next step.

“I think it’s inevitable that the gaming entertainment world will move in much the same way that the music and video entertainment worlds have already moved, in the sense that people have moved from an ownership model to an access model,” he said.

“And you’ll see that in gaming, just as you’ve seen it with Spotify and Netflix in other media businesses.”

“That infrastructure barrier is still there, but it’s shrinking very rapidly,” he continued.

“And we think in the next couple of years, you’ll see some major technological announcements that will prove to be commercially significant in the next three to five years.”

“Right now if you want to play FIFA in the United States, it will cost you $460,” Evenden added.

“You have to buy the game; you have to buy the console.

“In a streaming world, it could be $9.99 a month. The commercial details have to be worked out, but whatever number it ends up at is very much less than $460.

“So that extends your market because all you need locally is literally a smart TV.”

The latest NBA 2K18 patch has been released on PS4 this week by the development team.

Unfortunately, the new 1.04 update is not yet available on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch; 2K have confirmed it will arrive on other platforms soon.

NBA 2K18 has proven a hit with fans and has done well among critics, with high review scores given to the new sports title.

The launch on the Nintendo Switch looks to have boosted the new game as well, although a physical release has yet to land.

NBA 2K18 patch 4 is big in scope, providing updates and tweaks to large areas of the game.

One big announcement is the Classic Edition uniforms for the Bucks, Hornets, Lakers, and Suns being added to the game.

2K has told fans to look for these to be released in the next roster update and have also revealed that the NBA logo has been removed from the created uniform template in MyGM/MyLEAGUE, due to popular demand.

Another roster boost will come from the five new shoes added to the game: BBB ZO2: Prime, Jordan CP3.X AE, Jordan Super.Fly 2017, Nike Foamposite One, and Kobe A.D. NXT.

GTA 5 Online developer Rockstar has revealed the release date for the next major piece of DLC.

The GTA Online Transform Races update will go live on October 17. Like most GTA 5 DLC drops, the patch should roll out around midday.

As previously reported, Transform Races lets players transition between land, sea and air in a single race.

“Transform Races allow for instant mid-race transition between land, sea and air vehicles as players traverse courses that span Los Santos’ streets, harbours, and skies,” reads a Rockstar post.

“Transform between a wide array of vehicle types – from Supers and Off-Roaders, to Boats, Jet Skis, Planes, Helicopters and more.

“These new and unique stunt tracks will also feature Warps, new checkpoint types that allow for instant mid-race jumps from place to place across the map, allowing for a huge range of new Stunt Race types.”
