It’s been 14 years since The Lord of the Rings trilogy ended with The Return of the King – a film that went on to win 12 Oscars.
Since then Peter Jackson has gone on to make The Hobbit trilogy, but it’s the original three films that are wildly held as the best by fans.
With nine members of the Fellowship, it would only seem right to have nine incredible facts to celebrate a trilogy that came 23rd, 16th and 10th in Empire’s 100 Greatest Movies of All Time.
1. The battle scene in The Fellowship of the Ring’s prologue was inspired by the action made famous in James Bond pre-credits scenes.
2. All characters wore a wig except for Billy Jackson, the son of director Peter Jackson, who apparently had perfect hobbit hair.
