SNES Mini Classic update: Why this HUGE milestone could be bad news for UK stock

SNES Mini is proving extremely popular in Japan, where it outperformed the Nintendo Switch in its opening few days on sale.

The Nintendo Switch sold 330k units during its first week on sale in Japan, while the shifted 368k in its first four days.

But while this may be good news for Nintendo, it doesn’t bode well for fans hoping to get hold of stock in time for Christmas.

The SNES Mini has been selling out within minutes whenever new stock is released.

The SNES Classic Mini was back in stock at GAME in the early hours of October 11, but the allocation sold out quickly.

US fans might have had more luck at Gamestop and Thinkgeek, where the console was back in store and online.

The news comes as SNES Classic Mini fans find a buried within the source code.

After the SNES Classic Mini was hacked to play more games than the 21 titles included in the library, fans have found a message from Nintendo.

The message says: “Enjoy this Mini, Disconnect from the present, and Go back to the nineties.”

The original NES Classic Mini – which goes back on sale in 2018 – also had a message hidden within the source code.

The message reads: “This is the hanafuda captain speaking. Launching emulation in 3…2…1. Many efforts, tears and countless hours have been put into this jewel. So, please keep this place tidied up and don’t break everything! Cheers, the hanafuda captain.”
