Nintendo games news: Has the Switch just topped The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild?

If we all remember back to the Nintendo Switch launch, there was one standout title among few that really carried the day.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild started off as one of the highest-rated games of the last few years, only to eventually sink behind other major titles from the past.

On Metacritic, Zelda Breath of the Wild is still the best-rated title on the Nintendo Switch games list, although that could change very soon.

That’s because much like with Link’s earlier adventure, the first review for Super Mario Odyssey has launched and it’s perfect.

EDGE Magazine has given the new Super Mario Switch title a 10/10, which isn’t something it does regularly.

In fact, only 20 times have EDGE given such a high score, one of the last being The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

This would make Super Mario Odyssey the fourth game this generation to get 10/10, and the second game in 2017.

This was the earliest indication that Zelda Breath of the Wild was going to be a big game and it probably means the same for Super Mario Odyssey.

The Legend of Zelda game currently has a 97/100 Metascore, based on 108 critic reviews.

Having played it recently, the Express Online’s Liam Martin had this to say on the upcoming Nintendo Switch title:

“Super Mario Odyssey is shaping up to be one of the games of the year, and not just on Nintendo Switch.

“Ahead of the October release date, Express Online got to preview some of the new game worlds, including the Cap Kingdom, Luncheon Kingdom and Seaside Kingdom.

“And it’s in the Seaside Kingdom where one of the best Super Mario boss fights of all time takes place.

“Despite being one of the most inventive gaming franchises of all time, Super Mario boss battles have tended to let the side down.

“But that looks set to change in Super Mario Odyssey, or at least if the epic Seaside Kingdom boss battle is anything to go by.

“It all revolves around a giant octopus that has bottled up the kingdom’s famous sparkle water.

“It’s one of the best Super Mario boss battles of all time, and another reason to be excited for the next big Nintendo Switch blockbuster.”

Super Mario Odyssey is launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch on October 27.
