Star Wars 8: Carrie Fisher’s General Leia exit revealed? Last Jedi trailer’s shock hint

Carrie Fisher, who plays the iconic Star Wars character, passed away at the end of 2016, meaning Episode 8 will be her final performance.

Although her exit was obviously not planned and she was fully intended to return for Episode 9, has her shock fate been implied in the new trailer?

A heart-stopping moment sees her villainous son Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) appearing to be on the verge of shooting her ship from afar.

He seems emotionally torn apart by the possibility; echoing his horrific killing of father Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Episode 7.

Watch below.

Neither character speaks any words in the scene in the trailer, but it’s already an emotional highlight.

Will Ren pull the trigger and kill his mother just like he murdered his dad? We’ll have to wait and see.

It must be said, however, that given bosses’ intentions for Leia to be in Episode 9, Ren either bottles it, shoots but doesn’t kill, or the whole scene has been manipulated in post-production to draw Leia’s story to a close.

The film is out in just over two months, when the answers will finally be revealed.

It’s one of Leia’s only appearances in the entire clip, although Ren also shows up for one jaw-dropping moment at the end.

When protagonist Rey – who left him with a nasty scar in Episode 7 – says “I need someone to show me my place in all this”, it’s him who offers out his hand.

So does Rey turn to the Dark Side? Does Ren go to the light? Or is it more complicated than that?

Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi is out on December 14.
