Rafael Nadal has been speaking ahead of today’s showdown with Kyrgios.

“I’m very happy to be in the final again,” he said.

Nadal vs Kyrgios head to head record

Kyrgios is one of the few players on the ATP Tour who doesn’t have a losing record over Nadal.

His W2 L2 record spans over three years.

They first met at Wimbledon in 2014 when Kyrgios beat the Spaniard in four sets.

Nadal has won their two encounters on clay – in Rome in 2016 and Madrid this year.

The Aussie walked pasted Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round before coming back from a set down to edge Mischa Zverev.

He then got a 6-0 3-0 win over Steve Darcis in the quarters after his Belgian opponent withdrew injured.

Into the semis and Kyrgios dismantled Alexander Zverev 6-3 7-5. He kept his cool in the second set and broke at the crucial moment before serving out the match.

Rafael Nadal route to the final

Nadal has enjoyed a fairly routine run to the China Open final.

He has dropped just two sets all tournament – and one of those was on a tie break.

Nadal beat Lucas Pouille in the first round before romping past Karen Khachanov and John Isner to set up a semi-final with Grigor Dimitrov.

That went the distance with Nadal proving too strong in the final set, winning it 6-1.
