iPhone X represents a dramatic redesign for the best-selling smartphone range.

unveiled the new flagship phone during its exclusive .

The Cupertino-based company said this new iPhone would “set the path for technology for the next decade”.

“It is the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone,” Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on-stage during the launch event.

The iPhone X includes a new 5.8inch edge-to-edge OLED multi-touch display, water resistant design, and improved dual camera set-up.

That OLED display also supports 3D Touch – Apple’s pressure-sensitive screen technology – as well as True Tone, which seamlessly adapts the temperature of the display to the ambient light.

Like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus before it, iPhone X is water and dust resistant, rated IP67.

The new smartphone unlocks and authenticates payments via Face ID – a new depth-sensing face scanning technology.

iPhone X is available in two colours: Space Grey and Silver.

Apple will charge £999 for the entry-level iPhone X model, which ships with 64GB of storage built-in. The top-of-the-line model packs 256GB of storage and costs £1,149.

The US technology offers a number of payment plans for users, including its iPhone Upgrade Programme, which lets users pay-off their device in monthly instalments and upgrade to a new iPhone each year.

Apple bundles AppleCare+ with the iPhone Upgrade Programme plans.

Pre-orders for the new iPhone will be available online on Friday October 27th 2017.

If Apple follows its usual timeline (and there’s no reason to believe it won’t this time around) then pre-orders will be available from 8:01am in the UK and Ireland.

Those abroad should check the Apple Store at 12:01am US Pacific Time, US Central Time 2:01am, Canada (Toronto) 3:01am, Central European Time 9:01am, Australia 3:01pm, and Japan (Tokyo) 4:01pm.

Customers can place a pre-order for the new iPhone models via the Apple Store website, or within the iOS app.

Orders can be reserved for pick-up in brick-and-mortar Apple Stores, or posted to home addresses, on Friday November 3rd.

Those on the iPhone Upgrade Programme are eligible to upgrade to the latest hardware every year.

Apple debuted the scheme in the UK last September alongside the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which means these phone owners are now eligible to trade-in their year-old devices for the latest hardware.

As well as Apple’s own online and high street retail stores, the new iPhone models will also be available from every major UK mobile network.

If you’d prefer to buy your new iPhone via a mobile operator, many of the biggest UK carriers have launched pages to register an interest in the iPhone X.

Registering with an email address will keep you posted with the latest updates about the iPhone X.

Contracts for the iPhone X look like they will range from around £60 to £80 per month, depending on the mobile carrier, mobile data allowance, upfront cost, and more.
