Bali locals took to Twitter to report levels of seismic activity around Mount Agung have increased by 23 per cent.

, having spewed smoke and ash from its crater and a dramatic uplift in seismic activity.

Mount Agung has become increasingly active after a brief period of calming, according to the latest update from MAGMA Indonesia.

A report said: “Tiltmeter observations showed a sudden deflation on October 1, 2017, but following days until today showed continued inflation.”

Bali volcano update from Mount Agung shows the area is rocked by an average of 1-3 earthquakes per minute, according to MAGMA Indonesia. 

Since September 24, shallow volcanic earthquakes have increased to more than 200 per day, indicating that magmatic activity is still dangerously high. 

A Bali local wrote on Twitter: “There has been a 23 per cent increase for yesterday October 05.

“This brings us back to very high levels of seismic activity (918 for the day).

“This morning has seen a 58 per cent increase in activity compared to the same yesterday.

“This is also 39 per cent about the five-day average. Airport status is still orange.”

Bali governor I Made Mangku Pastika has declared a state of emergency on the island.

Evacuees have been housed in tents, schools and government buildings in neighbouring villages.

While there are stocks of food, water, medicine and other supplies, evacuees fear they are in for a long wait that could disrupt their livelihoods.
