Arsenal news: Mesut Ozil willing to play for Man Utd, but could agree new deal

Ozil, 28, has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract at Arsenal and looks destined to leave the club.

The Germany international will be able to hold talks and sign a pre-contract with a rival club in January.

boss Jose Mourinho is apparently ‘highly confident’ about securing Ozil’s signature.

The Portuguese boss supposedly believes he can lure Ozil to Old Trafford because of their relationship at Real Madrid.

And Goal claim the player himself is willing to join the Red Devils.

It is said the only major sticking point in the deal is Ozil’s reluctance to move to Manchester.

is also reportedly willing to join Real Madrid or Barcelona.

The chances of the midfielder securing a move back to the Bernabeu appear unlikely, but he has many friends in the Spanish capital.

But the prospect of joining Barca could be more realistic as they are on the lookout or a playmaker following the world-record departure of Neymar this summer.

Ernesto Valverde’s side desperately tried to sign Philippe Coutinho, but Liverpool stood firm and insisted he was not for sale after.

The Reds rejected three bids from the La Liga giants with the last totalling £118million, so moving for Ozil would be a considerably cheaper option.

However, Goal say he could even remain at  and sign a new deal.

Ozil is said to be happy living in London after recently buying a new house and he could consider staying after making many close friends.

The Gunners are yet to make a contract proposal after putting talks on hold in February.

But negotiations apparently resumed at the start of the season with Dick Law, the man who helped bring Ozil to north London from Madrid in 2013, still running several errands for the club despite leaving his post at the end of September.

Reports claim Ozil has already rejected a £275,000-a-week contract, but Goal reckon this is completely false.

Ozil is absent from international duty with Germany due to knee inflammation.

But he could return for Arsenal after the international break to take on Watford on Saturday October 14 (5:30pm).
