Nintendo Switch news: A true CLASSIC joins the games list – and it’s not Stardew Valley

games list just added a true cult classic – and we’re not talking about .

While Stardew Valley quite rightly headlines this week’s new Nintendo Switch games releases, there’s another indie gem that also joins the list.

Available from the Nintendo Switch eShop for £8.99, Volgarr the Viking is an old-school 2D platformer that started life on Kickstarter.

The game made its PC debut in 2013, before being ported across to Xbox One, PS4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U and now Nintendo Switch.

Fiendishly difficult, but never unfair, Volgarr the Viking starts with a sword, shield and spear, but can earn new abilities as levels progress.

This includes the ability to take additional hits, which is essential if you’re to stand any chance of progressing.

It joins fellow highly rated recent Nintendo Switch releases like Axiom Verge, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Golf Story.

But it’s Stardew Valley that’s grabbing the headlines, as the beloved farming sim makes its debut on Nintendo Switch.

After weeks of hints from developer Chucklefish, Stardew Valley is available from the Nintendo eShop for £10.99.

The next step for Stardew Valley developer Chucklefish is to add a multiplayer mode.

This is scheduled to launch as a free update next year, although it’s unclear if it will be a staggered release.

The developer is also working on a brand new game that takes place in a magical new setting.

It’s described as a magic school role-playing game, taking gameplay elements found in Stardew Valley and adding them to a school environment.

Hopefully it will be released on Nintendo Switch, which seems to be the new home of indie games.
