Las Vegas shooting: Hero security job who saved hotel guests was ‘just doing my job’

Jesus Campus is credited with preventing America’s worst mass shooting from being even more deadly.

He was the first person to reach killer Stephen Paddock’s room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel where he was holed up with an arsenal of high-powered weapons.

After spotting Mr Campos approaching on a surveillance camera he had installed outside his room, Paddock opened fire through the door.

Miraculously, Mr Campos escaped with a single bullet to his right leg, as Paddock proceeded to strafe the corridor with hundreds of rounds.

But rather than trying to escape, Mr Campos coolly radioed the shooter’s location.

And when police arrived minutes later, Campos not only gave them his master key, he also helped evacuate guests from nearby rooms, Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo revealed.

Despite being left with a bullet lodged in his leg, the guard told ABC News: “I’m fine. I was just doing my job.”

The guard only sought medical attention when ordered to leave by the police, Mr Lombardo claimed.

Sheriff Lombardi said: “His bravery was amazing. He gave our officers the key guard for the room and then continued clearing rooms until he was ordered to go seek attention.’

It is thought Mr Campos had just a baton to defend himself.

His brave action’s were also praised by US President Donald Trump when he visited Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Mr Trump said: “He did a good job, didn’t he? He did a good job. He did the right thing.”

Mr Campos has since been released from hospital.
