50p coin worth £5000 on eBay – do YOU have one of these rare Beatrix Potter collectables?

The Tom Kitten coin was released in August as part of the celebratory collection in honour of children’s author Beatrix Potter.

To celebrate the author’s 150th birthday The Royal Mint launched the special coins.

The silver piece features the mischievous Tom Kitten and went on sale following the success of other Beatrix Potter character coins – Jemima Puddleduck, Squirrel Nutkin and Mrs Tiggywinkle.

Peter Rabbit and Jeremy Fisher coins also got collectors excited when they were released earlier this year.

The Tom Kitten 50p coin was made available in both colour and silver editions through The Royal Mint’s online store.

For collectors looking to complete their collection, the final Beatrix Potter edition coin was recently been released – Benjamin Bunny.

The coins have never entered circulation, so to get one, collectors have had to pay around £60 each for them.

But the colour coins appear to have been most popular, with all of them no longer available on The Royal Mint website.

The coin was created to celebrate the anniversary of the historic British battle and was released into circulation by The Royal Mint in late 2016.

The coin shows an image from the famous Bayeux tapestry, the 70-meter long cloth, which served a visual depiction of the battle for historians.

Website ThinkMoney.co.uk said in November 2016: “If you have one of these to hand or in your wallet, it could be sold for at least £50.”

However, it seems those who have got their hands on the coin are hoping to make much more from them.
