A gunman opened fire at an open-air country music festival on the Las Vegas strip, sparking mass panic and confusion, at about 10.30pm local time.
Armed police have shot down the suspected attacker, but it is not yet known whether the suspect was killed or injured.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department tweeted “Confirming that one suspect is down. This is an active investigation.
“Again, please do not head down to the Strip at this time. At this time we do not believe there are any more shooters.”
Twenty-four people have been hospitalised with gun shot wounds and 14 people remain a critical condition, according to a spokeswoman for the University Medical Center hospital.

An off-duty police officer was among those shot. There were scenes of chaos when the crowd of around 40,000 people tried to run for cover.
Earlier in the evening police tweeted: “We’re investigating reports of an active shooter near/around Mandalay Bay Casino. Asking everyone to please avoid the area.”
Festival-goer Jon Bessett said “pandemonium” broke out after there were gunshots but the band initially continued playing before off stage.
”Everyone was running, people were getting trampled,” he told NBC News.
“We ran as quick as we could into hotel and tried to get on the elevator but couldn’t get in. Everyone was running for safety.”
Video clips posted online showed what sounded like automatic weapons as panicked concertgoers fled, dropped to the ground screaming.
Flights at Mccarran International Airport were temporarily halted after the reported shooting, the airport said on Twitter.
