SPARTAK MOSCOW vs LIVERPOOL

18:30: Here’s Liverpool’s starting XI folks. Bet Reds are delighted to see Sadio Mane’s name on the teamsheet.

Liverpool XI: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Matip, Moreno, Henderson, Can, Coutinho, Salah, Mane, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Flanagan, Klavan, Milner, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sturridge.

18:25: Despite it being an appallingly awkward press conference, it’s got nothing on Alan Pardew’s attempt at banter on Saturday.

Pardew, alongside Teddy Sheringham and Jamie Redknapp, were discussing Harry Kane on Sky Sports.

They were making comparisons between Kane and Sheringham – then this happened…

“He’s very similar to Teddy,” said Redknapp. “Not blessed with blistering pace but an incredible football brain, someone who picks the right pass at the right time.”

“He didn’t have Kane’s pace!” Pardew joked, interrupting Redknapp. “He was as quick as Harry Kane’s mum!” the manager added, pointing at Sheringham.

Oh boy. I won’t post the video here because it’s genuinely too awkward to handle.

18:20: Prepare yourselves for this lads, it’s like something from Impractical Jokers.

Jurgen Klopp arrived in Russia looking forward to his first visit to Moscow – but his first evening in the capital left him agitated and frustrated.

The Reds boss labelled his pre-match press conference at a hotel five minutes’ drive from where the team landed at Sheremetyevo Airport a “waste of time” and cut short his appearance after a bizarre line of questioning.

His mood was not helped by the constant clicking of photographers’ cameras and the Russian translator who then began translating his questions before he had finished them.

His patience almost snapped when he was asked whether he was in love with any of his players, a reference to Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino saying he loved striker Harry Kane.

From Russia with love, eh?

18:15: Good evening folks, welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League.

Every English team except Liverpool collected maximum points on the opening round of European fixtures.

But Jurgen Klopp doesn’t sound like he’s in the mood to drop points again, especially after his absolute farce of a press conference yesterday.

We’ll talk about that shortly.

Tottenham and Manchester City are also in action against Shakhtar Donetsk and APOEL respectively, while the game of the evening is undoubtedly Real Madrid’s trip to Borussia Dortmund.

Anyway, let’s get this show on the road!

SPARTAK MOSCOW vs LIVERPOOL

Defender Joe Gomez is suspended for Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Spartak Moscow after picking up a red card against Sevilla in the opening match.

As a result, Trent Alexander-Arnold will play at right-back in what is likely to be the only change to the defence which played in Saturday’s victory at Leicester.

Loris Karius will come into the starting line-up as manager Jurgen Klopp continues his policy of rotating goalkeepers for different competitions, with forward Sadio Mane set to start after serving the final game of his domestic ban at the weekend.

Liverpool provisional squad: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Henderson, Coutinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane, Mignolet, Flanagan, Milner, Klavan, Robertson, Can, Grujic, Sturridge, Solanke.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND vs REAL MADRID

Zinedine Zidane knows ending a club hoodoo by masterminding a Champions League win at Borussia Dortmund would go a long way towards answering Real Madrid’s critics.

The reigning Spanish and European champions have endured a rocky start to their domestic title defence and lie seven points adrift of fierce rivals Barcelona after six league games.

Real were comfortable 3-0 winners against Apoel Nicosia in their opening Champions League engagement but Dortmund will not be so easy to overcome at the Signal Iduna Park.

In fact, Real have failed to triumph in the North Rhine-Westphalia stronghold despite visiting six times.

MANCHESTER CITY vs SHAKHTAR DONETSK

Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy will be given a fitness test ahead of tonight’s Champions League Group F clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.

France international Mendy was forced off during the first half of Saturday’s victory over Crystal Palace with a knee injury but the problem is not considered serious.

Captain Vincent Kompany (calf) remains on the sidelines along with midfielder Ilkay Gundogan (knee).

Manchester City provisional squad: Ederson, Bravo, Walker, Danilo, Stones, Otamendi, Mangala, Mendy, Delph, Toure, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, D Silva, B Silva, Sane, Sterling, Foden, Diaz, Jesus, Aguero.

APOEL vs TOTENHAM

Christian Eriksen has joined a long list of Tottenham players who are unavailable for tonight’s Champions League game against Apoel Nicosia.

Eriksen fell ill on Sunday and has not travelled to Cyprus while Mousa Dembele is out with a foot injury and Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli are both banned.

Victor Wanyama and Danny Rose are unavailable with knee problems and Erik Lamela is also missing as he recovers from an injury to his hips.

Tottenham provisional squad: Lloris, Vorm, Gazzaniga, Davies, Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Foyth, Trippier, Aurier, Dier, Sissoko, Georgiou, Oakley-Boothe, Son, Llorente, Kane.
