Arsenal news: Alexis Sanchez has X-factor… he must start against West Brom – Sutton

Those are the thoughts of BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton.

Sanchez started on the bench and he was reduced to a 24-minute cameo in the goalless draw away to the Blues eight days ago at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners take on West Brom tonight (8pm), knowing a win could lift them to seventh in the Premier League table.

And while Sanchez has come under criticism from the fans, Sutton believes he has the ‘X Factor’ and can give his side something special in the final third.

“I was surprised that Alexis [Sanchez] was left out by Arsene Wenger against Chelsea last week,” Sutton told the Daily Mail

“After all Arsenal’s stubbornness in refusing to sell the striker, why not use him?

“But I don’t think Wenger was trying to say there’s no player bigger than the club by benching the Chilean.

“The manager maybe felt Sanchez wasn’t up to speed. Still, I can’t see him being left out against West Brom on Monday night, particularly with Danny Welbeck out.

“If Arsenal want that X-factor in the final third then Sanchez is their man.”

Despite suggestions the Gunners turned a corner against Chelsea, Sutton doesn’t think they will be challenging for the title.

He added: “A goalless draw against Chelsea doesn’t change a lot and when you look at Manchester United, City and Chelsea, they’ll be more consistent than Arsenal.

“The Gunners should beat West Brom, but it’s tough to imagine them as serious title contenders.”
