‘EU want RID of UK’ Europeans are ‘biggest resistance’ to MPs prolonging Brexit transition

A televised panel show of European journalists have bashed Britain for their handling of Brexit talks and ridiculed Theresa May’s Florence speech yesterday afternoon.

Speaking on France24, the Paris-based reporters piled on the anti-Brexit sentiment and mocked British MPs for “getting cold feet about their decision”.

They had been discussing the European reaction to Theresa May’s intervention in Italy, which laid out a two-year transition phase after Brexit in 2019.

This means that Britain will abide by EU rules and economic barriers until 2021, instead of heading for the “cliff edge exit”.

Gregory Viscusi, who writes for Bloomberg, said the biggest opposition to Remainers trying to thwart Brexit was not the Brexiteer Britons, but other European countries.

He told the French broadcasters: “If the British ever did change their minds, the biggest resistance would come from the European countries, who are just like ‘Good riddance!’

“They all just want to move on. They are fed up with the one foot in, one foot out. Don’t transition, just get out.”

Marc Bassets, who writes for El Pais, added: “The rest of Europe has already forgotten about Brexit. Merkel and Macron have moved on and left it to the Barnier.

“They are discussing new ways to integrate and move the EU forward.”

Ana Navarro Pedro also bashed Britain: “They have always stopped any European progress. Now we can move on and have agreement. But I’m afraid is doomed for them.”
