Southampton v Manchester United: Michael Owen reveals prediction for St Mary’s clash

That is the view of former Manchester United striker-turned-pundit Michael Owen.

United remain unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season and sit joint-top in the Premier League with rivals Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho’s side have won four of their opening five games, only dropping points in the 2-2 draw with Stoke earlier this month.

While Southampton will be looking to make it three consecutive league wins after beating Watford and Crystal Palace.

But Owen reckons will end Saints’ winning run and continue to mount an early title charge.

“I expect Manchester rivals United to likewise claims all three points at the weekend, with Jose Mourinho’s side unstoppable against Southampton on the south coast,” Owen told the Metro.

“The Red Devils are unbeaten in six Premier League visits to St Mary’s, winning four, and likely to extend that record at Southampton’s expense.”

The last time United took on  at St Mary’s it ended goalless.

But with Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford firing on all cylinders this season, goals will be expected.

However, a win for Southampton will allow them to get revenge for their EFL Cup final defeat last season.

But whether Virgil van Dijk plays a part in their revenge mission remains to be seen, with Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino set to make a decision today on his inclusion.

“We will decide on Friday, but every week for Virgil is important because he is getting better,” Pellegrino said.

“After a long period of time without playing a game now he is training well, and it’s good news for us because we need Virgil like every single player in our squad.

“Virgil is an important player for us. I think every single week he will improve, but at the same time he needs to play, he needs to train.

“The best training session for me is to play games. Now he is playing in the reserves and he is training well.”
