19:25: Jurgen Klopp believes his side have the depth in the squad to compete in different competitions but did not rule out signing reinforcements in January.

Having missed out on Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, Klopp brought in Mohammad Salah, Dominic Solanke, Andrew Robertson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the close season.

Ahead of tonight’s trip to Leicester, the German said he was happy with the personnel at his disposal at the moment.

“From today’s perspective, yes – we will see how it is in January. I think the squad is wide enough to play in different competitions and to come as far as possible and that’s the plan at the moment,” he told the club’s website.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Nimrod: Come on Liverpool! Really want to see Oxlade-Chamberlain, Grujic and Solanke come come of age. Confident of a win today!

Stuart: I was thinking we need to bin-off the League Cup this year, but now a game’s come around I hope we absolutely destroy Leicester.

Shaz: Alan Shearer needs to a bit more work at punditry school. Jurgen Klopp HAS improved the squad while Rodgers had Suarez. Enough said. I need a job as a pundit.

19:15: I almost forgot. If you’d like to have your say on the Carabao Cup, you can comment at the bottom of the page, or find me on . It might be nice for someone to contact me there other than those pesky sex-bots.

19:10: Alan Shearer has risked the wrath of the Liverpool supporters after slamming Jurgen Klopp.

The former England striker says Liverpool have made no significant headway under Klopp since the German replaced Brendan Rodgers.

“The truth… is that Liverpool are no different under boss Klopp than they were under Brendan Rodgers,” Shearer wrote.

“What I witnessed on Saturday in their draw at home to Burnley was laughable. I am left wondering just what he does on the training ground when the same defensive errors are repeated week in, week out.”

19:00: If you’re praying to see more mistakes, here’s the details for tomorrow’s fourth-round draw.

* The draw will be made live on Sky Sports after the live match between Manchester United and Burton Albion on Wednesday.

* The Carabao Cup fourth-round ties will be drawn from the Sky Sports studio in London at around 10pm (if the game doesn’t go to extra-time).

18:55: Wes Morgan, Marc Albrighton and Wilfried Ndidi are the only survivors from their 1-1 draw with Huddersfield.

Aleksandar Dragovic and Vicente Iborra make their first competitive appearances since arriving at the King Power Stadium this summer.

Craig Shakespeare starts the big boys together with Islam Slimani and Leonardo Ulloa leading the attack, presumably to target Liverpool’s aerial vulnerability.

18:45: And here’s Craig Shakespeare’s selections for tonight’s clash. Very competative side if you ask me.

Leicester XI: Hamer, Amartey, Dragovic, Morgan, Chilwell, Albrighton, Iborra, Ndidi, Gray, Slimani, Ulloa.

Subs: Jakupovic, Benalouane, Choudhury, Mahrez, Musa, Okazaki, Iheanacho.

18:40: There’s never a dull moment in this competition, as proved by the countless mistakes during the draws.

An audio problem left viewers relying on on-screen graphics to learn who each team had drawn, with Charlton playing in two different ties.

The draw for the second round of the Carabao Cup was also marred by confusion as John Salako drew ties the wrong way around.

In the words of 2014, it’s been an epic fail…

18:35: Right, let’s have a proper look at Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI. The German has made eight changes for tonight’s trip to Leicester with only Philippe Coutinho, Ragnar Klavan and Andy Robertson keeping their places from Saturday’s draw with Burnley.

There’s a place for Chelsea recruit Dominic Solanke, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain makes his first start since joining from Liverpool.

Forgotten men Lazar Markovic and Danny Ings are among the substitutes, alongside the impressive Welsh international Ben Woodburn.

18:30: Liverpool have released their side folks, and at first glance it looks pretty decent.

Liverpool XI: Ward, Flanagan, Gomez, Klavan, Robertson, Henderson, Coutinho, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Grujic, Solanke.

Subs: Karius, Moreno, Alexander-Arnold, Milner, Woodburn, Markovic, Ings.

18:28: Those starting XI’s will be dropped any moment now folks. Edge of your seat kind of stuff…

18:25: While we’re on the topic of sponsorship, I have a theory that whatever you knew the competition as during your formative years, is what you still call it today.

It’s the Carling Cup for me, but my dad still calls it the Milk Cup and won’t be told otherwise! Actually, there’s no way people call it the Littlewoods Challenge Cup or Rumbelows Cup still, right?

18:20: I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking; what the hell is Carabao?!

After some extensive Googling, and a few computer-related tantrums, I can reveal that Carabao is an energy drink.

It’s Thailand’s second most popular energy drink, behind another beverage called M-150 (which sounds like a ballistic missile) and tastes like Calpol.

Apparently it’s on sale in England although I’ve never personally seen it, but then again, I’ve never heard of most of the Premier League shirts sponsors this year.

Anyone ever placed a bet with LeTou (Swansea), Fun88 (Newcastle) or SportPesa (Everton)?!? Didn’t think so.

18:10: Good evening folks, welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Carabao Cup.

There’s 11 third-round fixtures tonight with 11 Premier League sides in action, and the potential for a couple of upsets.

We’ll keep you abreast of everything that happens around the grounds, but our main focus will be on the match taking place at the King Power Stadium.

Liverpool and Leicester cross swords for a spot in the fourth round and are hopeful of ending a three-match winless streak in all competitions.

So sit back, relax and let the third most entertaining domestic cup competition unfold…

LEICESTER TEAM NEWS

Jamie Vardy is a major doubt for Leicester ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool.

The striker has a groin problem following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield while Matty James (Achilles), Robert Huth (ankle) and Christian Fuchs (eye) are out.

Adrien Silva remains sidelined after FIFA blocked his £22million transfer from Sporting Lisbon because his documentation was received 14 seconds after the deadline. Leicester are finalising an appeal.

LIVERPOOL TEAM NEWS

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will make his first start for the club in the Carabao Cup.

The England international, who moved to Anfield on transfer deadline day, will be joined in the team by third-choice goalkeeper Danny Ward and fellow midfielder Marko Grujic.

Striker Dominic Solanke is also set to be involved while manager Jurgen Klopp is set to make a number of changes as forward Sadio Mane sits out the second game of his three-match ban.

PROVISIONAL SQUADS

Leicester squad: Schmeichel, Jakupovic, Hamer, Simpson, Morgan, Knight, Chilwell, Maguire, Dragovic, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Iborra, Ndidi, Amartey, Gray, Choudhury, Albrighton, Thomas, Mahrez, Musa, Vardy, Ulloa, Slimani, Okazaki, Iheanacho.

Liverpool squad: Ward, Gomez, Klavan, Lovren, Robertson, Grujic, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Solanke, Ings, Sturridge, Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Coutinho, Wijnaldum, Woodburn, Firmino.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare: “I see it as a very good opportunity to get to the next round, albeit against a really difficult opponent.

“It’s a home game, the fans will turn out in their numbers and we expect, as a team, to try and progress to the next round. It’s an opportunity for us to progress as a Football Club in a cup. We want to do well.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: “The Carabao Cup is a fantastic opportunity for Alex (Oxlade-Chamberlain) because since he has been in it has been difficult to train on different things because of game after game after game.

“There is no rush but we are in this three-game-a-week rhythm and during the international break he was with the national team. But it is a long-term project so I have no problem. We sat together with him and the analysts and showed him how we want him to play in this position and that position.”
