iOS 11 is out TODAY, but it won’t ship with one of its most impressive new features

is almost here, with the big update from  expected to drop around 6pm BST tonight.

The iPhone and iPad update will bring with it a number of great new features, including upgrades to Apple Maps, Siri and Apple Pay.

There will also be a customisable Control Centre as well as a Do Not Disturb feature so notifications are blocked while you are driving.

iPad users will get one of the biggest new features, a dock that will store all your favourite apps and and improves multitasking.

Users of the popular tablet will also be able to drag and drop, so they’ll be able to move text, images and files between apps with just a few taps.

But one of the most impressive features that iOS 11 brings will not be available at launch.

iOS 11 will bring with it a new peer-to-peer payment system, that lets you exchange money through Apple’s Messages app.

However, Apple confirmed in a statement that the feature will not be available in the iOS 11 update today.

It instead will launch later this year in a forthcoming update to iOS 11 and watchOS 4.

Apple said: “Coming this fall with an update to iOS 11 and watchOS 4, Apple Pay users will be able to send and receive money from friends and family quickly, easily and securely.

“Pay and get paid right in Messages, or tell Siri to pay someone, using the credit and debit cards they have in Wallet.

“When users get paid, they receive the money in their new Apple Pay Cash card in Apple Wallet and can use the money instantly.”

The new Apple payment system was first unveiled back at WWDC earlier this year, but has not been part of the developer or public betas for iOS 11.

The feature will be integrated into the Messages app via Apple Pay.

It’s not the only iOS 11 feature that will not be ready when the big iPhone and iPad update releases later today.

The new Apple Maps indoor navigation feature, which helps people navigate indoor areas such as airports and shopping centres, will launch in a later update.

One big headline feature for iOS 11 that will be ready at launch is the improvements it offers to Augmented Reality (AR).

iOS 11 comes with ARKit loaded on it, new software that optimises the AR experience and helps developers create AR apps for iPhone and iPad.

Other new features that iOS 11 brings is a big redesign of the App Store, which puts it more in line with the look of Apple Music.

However, iOS 11 won’t be available to download for iPhone and iPad users that have much older models.

Here’s a full list of iOS 11 compatible products:

iPHONE – iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5s
