Destiny 2 DOWN – Servers down for maintenance for HOURS on PS4 and Xbox One

Destiny 2 is down right now for PS4 and Xbox One players after servers have been taken offline for maintenance by Bungie and Activision.

Destiny 2 servers will be down between 3pm and 7pm BST today for maintenance work, with players unable to login during this period.

The Destiny 2 server maintenance begins at 10am Eastern time or 7am Pacific time.

The maintenance is being carried out to put in place Update 1.0.1.3, which should go live shortly after servers are back online.

Bungie revealed earlier today that Destiny 2 servers would be taken offline for maintenance.

They tweeted: “Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 will be taken offline for server maintenance today (9/18) at 7 AM PDT. Info”.

The tweet had a link to a Bungie help page that gave more details on the Destiny 2 server status and how long it will be offline for.

Bungie said: “Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 services will be taken offline on Monday, September 18, 2017 for scheduled maintenance. Following this maintenance, Destiny 2 players will be prompted to accept Update 1.0.1.3.

“For updates on this maintenance as it occurs, players should follow @BungieHelp, or monitor our support feed on help.bungie.net.

“For Destiny Patch Notes players should monitor our Updates page on Bungie.net.”

It’s the second time in the past week that Bungie have taken  for server maintenance.

Last Tuesday Destiny 2 servers were taken offline by Bungie, with the game again offline for four hours.

Bungie said players could expect an in-game notification before the maintenance began.

Bungie explains: “Occasionally, Destiny may be brought offline for scheduled or emergency maintenance, or to update the game to address gameplay issues or add in-game features.”

Bungie have already said in a blog post that the server maintenance will be used to patch out a piece of armour.

The Destiny 2 maker spoke out after it emerged one of the armours in the game referenced the ‘key’ internet meme.

This is a meme that in recent times has been used by alt-right supporters, with flags of the symbol held at rallies.

Bungie said the Destiny 2 armour has designed back in 2015, before ‘kek’ was used by alt-right supporters.

As such, the developer said it had missed the meme’s more recent “vile” connotations.

In the blog post, Bungie community manager David “Deej” Dague wrote: “Graphic designers routinely reference real world art, iconography, typeface, and other design elements to inform the choices they make.

“In this case, some of the reference imagery featured the simple mirrored chevron shapes found in the finished piece.”

He added: “Unfortunately, that review was conducted to explore whether or not we were comfortable with the connection to the original, innocuous ‘kek’ internet meme.

“The more contemporary, vile derivation that has been repurposed by hate groups was not surfaced through this process, and therefore, the armour was approved for ship.”

He said Bungie were “still investigating our creative process in full” but there was “no degree of malicious intent from anyone on our team”.
