Morata on Man Utd offer

07:30: Alvaro Morata has revealed Jose Mourinho made contact with him about a move to Manchester United this summer.

When asked if Mourinho had been in touch with him above about a move to United, Morata told the Daily Mail: “Yes. I had various offers this summer, not only Chelsea and Manchester United but also from different leagues.

“It was a good situation for me. The most important and best conversation I had was with Conte, he wanted me to come here.

“At the start of the summer, I didn’t know that Chelsea were interested in me. I thought they were in for a different player ….”

“Maybe Lukaku or maybe someone else, I don’t know. I didn’t think the option of Chelsea was open.”

Lukaku is better than Morata

06:15: Romelu Lukaku is better than Alvaro Morata, according to former Chelsea winger Graeme Le Saux.

“Alvaro Morata has shone in those two games [against Everton and Leicester], scoring in each,” he told Betfair.

“Chelsea were obviously in for Romelu Lukaku in the summer and missed out, but Morata is certainly doing enough to justify his transfer fee.

“At the moment you might say that Lukaku is the better striker, based on amount of goals scored, but Morata has huge potential.”

Rooney should celebrate if he scores

05:00: Wayne Rooney has every right to celebrate against Manchester United if he scores for Everton, according to Ryan Giggs.

Giggs told Sky Sports: “If you score a goal, you hear players talk about, you sort of lose yourself and I don’t think we should get away from that.

“Show respect, don’t go over the top, but if you score a goal then celebrate. I think fans recognise that.

“Knowing Wayne, I’m sure he’ll be nervous, but relishing the chance as well and he’ll want to score because that’s his job.

“He’ll get a great reception from the United fans because he was such a great player for United in such a successful era as well.

“I’m sure he’ll be looking forward to it and the United fans will be looking forward to seeing how he does as well, hoping he doesn’t score and Wayne the opposite, hoping he does score.”
