The patrol soldier was attacked outside Chatelet metro station this morning.
Frances’s armed forces minister said thel soldier was not injured and the attacker was arrested by police.
In recent months, police officers and troops patrolling Paris streets have been the target of attacks.
Last month, seven soldiers were left seriously injured when a BMW drove into them deliberately.
In April, a police officer was killed in a shooting on the Champs-Elysées.
In June, an ISIS supporter drove a car loaded with gas bottles into a military vehicle on the same road.
The attacker died when the car caught fire and no soldiers were injured.
It comes after a series of attacks by Islamist militants that have killed more than 230 people in France in the past three years.
