Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp must change philosophy to win silverware – Jermaine Jenas

That is the view of former Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

Liverpool’s defensive frailties were exposed last weekend when they were thrashed 5-0 by Manchester City, albeit with 10-men for over 50 minutes.

And in midweek, the Reds conceded a sloppy opener and then surrendered a 2-1 lead over Sevilla to draw their opening Champions League match.

Defensive concerns have left many critics doubting whether Liverpool are good enough to mount a serious challenge for major honours this season.

And though Jenas is a fan of Klopp, he believes the Liverpool boss could start feeling pressure from the board and fans.

He told BBC Radio Five Live: “The pressure is starting to mount on Jurgen Klopp now.

“So much was expected of him and he is loved so much.

“I love watching him on the sideline and everything he has to say.

“He’s a fantastic character to have in the game but at some point the Liverpool hierarchy and fans are going to ask for silverware.

“[But] this style of football, I’m not sure it is going to deliver anything and it is not going to deliver the one they really want which is the Premier League.”
