IT movie Freddy Krueger Pennywise cameo: HUGE news from Andres Muschietti

The IT movie has been a monsrous box office smash and talk is already turning to the sequel.

Muschietti has also revealed some deleted scenes which coudl make it into the Director’s Cut.

One of the possibilities that fans were most excited about was the idea of another horror movie icon crossing over into the IT movie.

Pennywise is just one of the manifestations of children’s fears. With the film setting updated from the 1950s to the 1980s, Krueger is the jobvious choice to embody that decade’s most terrifying imagery.

Muschietti told Ain’t It Cool News: “I love the story and I love how Stephen King basically makes a portrait of childhood in the ’50s. He’s very genuine when he brings all the Universal Monsters to the repertoire of incarnation because that’s what kids were afraid of. It would be a natural path to try to recreate that in the ’80s…

“I wanted to bring fears that were a little more layered and related to childhood trauma and more surprising in general. I think that Stephen King was open to that.”

So, what about the metal-gloved, scarred sewer-dweller?

Unfortunately, fans hopes will be dashed.

Muschietti explained: “I really wasn’t too crazy about bringing stuff like Freddy Krueger into the story. I thought it was a bit too meta with New Line involved in the film. It’s distracting and it didn’t feel right, for some reason.

“Obviously we considered that for a bit, but I wasn’t too interested in bringing Freddy Krueger into the mix.”

Fans, of course, are free to create any movie mash-ups they like and a startling new one went viral earlier tis week when a fan posted a cartoon of Pennywise holding hands with his “boyfriend” the Babadook. They make a delightful pair.

While hopes of a creepy bromance between Pennywsie and Freddy have been destroyed, fans can still look forward to the extra scenes in the extended Director’s Cut, which is expected later this year.
