Nintendo Switch Virtual Console comes early with new games

Nintendo Switch Virtual Console has come early with the announcement of a new game collection coming soon.

Nintendo Switch Arcade Archives is a selection of classic games that are being remade and released on Nintendo Switch.

It all starts with Mario Bros on September 27, followed by he likes of Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, Pinball, Clu Clu Land and Punch-Out!!

The games will all have two-player options, which means they can be played locally by detaching the Joy-Cons.

Likewise, Nintendo will make subtle changes to the releases, including alternative item placements in games like Super Mario Bros.

The game was announced during the latest Nintendo Switch Direct, which took place earlier this week.

During the conference, Nintendo announced plans to release a Switch version of Doom later this year and Wolfenstein 2 next year.

Rocket League was confirmed for this holiday season, while Elder Scrolls Skyrim was given a November 17 release date.

Elsewhere, Minecraft was announced for 3DS, while a new Pokemon-themed handheld was unveiled.

The Arcade Archives should tie fans over until the release of the Virtual Console and the subscription-based online service.

Both were delayed until next year, as Nintendo holds back in order to provide a world class experience.

Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime said: “As Nintendo looks at the overall online digital experience there’s a recognition that there’s a lot of work to be world class.

“And we pride ourselves … We believe our IP is world class. We believe that when we create a piece of hardware it’s world class. We need to get our digital environment world class. And that’s what we’re working hard to do.”
