The trailers left many people wondering what exactly the plot is, and some have even left the movie asking the same question.
Oscar-winner Lawrence, 27, plays the lead role in the high-profile thriller – and explained what exactly it deals with.
She told the Telegraph: “It depicts the rape and torment of Mother Earth. It’s not for everybody. It’s a hard film to watch.
“But it’s important for people to understand the allegory we intended.”
She clarified: “I represent Mother Earth, Javier [Bardem], whose character is a poet, represents a form of God, a creator; Michelle Pfeiffer is an Eve to Ed Harris’s Adam, there’s Cain and Abel and the setting sometimes resembles the Garden of Eden.

“For Darren [Aronofsky, director] to take these massive biblical themes and condense them into a narrative about a house and a couple I think is just brilliant.
“I have never heard of anything like it.”
The film is so bold that Lawrence revealed on US TV this week that she initially panicked that it was a “mistake”.
“When I saw it with an audience, I felt really shook afterwards,” she recalled.
“I pulled Darren aside, I was like ‘this was a mistake, we took it to far’. And he was like, ‘what?’
“And then thirty minutes later, I was like, ‘ah [relief]’.”
Mother! is out tomorrow.
