Liverpool won’t win trophies playing like that – Keane

09:43: Roy Keane believes Liverpool have no chance of winning the big prizes after their defensive display in the 2-2 draw with Sevilla last night.

“This sums up Liverpool in a nutshell, and why they’re not going to win any big prizes,” Keane told ITV.

“Just switching off from a throw in, leads to the equaliser. In such an important game, at such an important moment.

“Experienced players just switching off. It must drive the manager crazy as it’s just schoolboy defending. It’s the easiest part of football… just switching on.”

Enrique snub

07:50: Jose Enrique has revealed how Arsenal twice failed to sign him during his time at Newcastle United and Liverpool.

Enrique was asked on Twitter by a journalist: “Wish you all the best after retirement. Great Premier League player. Question for you: Did Arsenal ever approach you at #NUFC?”

And Enrique responded: “Thanks a lot for your message. Yes they did mate the same summer I went to Liverpool and when I play for Liverpool too. Twice they did.”

Wijnaldum on Coutinho return

05:40: Georginio Wijnaldum insists Liverpool are ‘very lucky’ to have a player like Philippe Coutinho.

“We’re very lucky to have a player like that in our ranks,” he said on the subject of Coutinho’s return.

“We have so many strong attacking players, and not all of them can play every game.

“Next week it might be me who ends up on the bench! I’ve been playing regularly of late, though, so I’m not complaining.”

Klopp on Coutinho

04:30: Jurgen Klopp insists Philippe Coutinho needs more time to find his rhythm at Liverpool.

Coutinho, 25 made his first appearance of the season for Liverpool against Sevilla in the Champions League following his Barcelona transfer saga last night.

“Phil trained in the last few days really, really well but tonight a few situations were not too lucky and he was without rhythm,” Klopp said.

“But it helped him he could play tonight and it helped us in the long term, for sure, so all OK.”

Van Dijk to Liverpool claim

04:00: Liverpool should sign someone like Virgil van Dijk as they need to tighten up in defence, according to Lee Dixon.

“There attacking prowess is brilliant, it has been all season – the way they hit you on the break,” Dixon said after the Reds’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League.

“But playing against the better teams in the Champions League and in the Premier League they are going to have to tighten up at the back.”

When asked about the prospect of signing Van Dijk, Dixon added: “I think signing one player of his quality would improve you, but it is a mentality thing.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain slammed

03:30: Dietmar Hamann has criticised Liverpool for signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Reds spent £35million to bring the former Arsenal winger to Anfield on deadline day.

But Hamann admitted he was baffled as to why they bought him.

Hamann told RTE after Liverpool’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Sevilla: “On the bench tonight, you had Sturridge, Coutinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain – I’m not sure why he was bought.”
