IT movie end credits teaser EXPLAINED: What does it mean for sequel set 27 years later?

Last weekend saw as movie fans were terrified by Pennywise the Clown.

While the Losers Club managed to injure IT, they weren’t quite successful in killing him.

In fact he teased that he would return to his slumber for another 27 year gap before returning to feed on the children of Derry, Maine once again.

This is something that was teased right at the end of the credits, when the child victims of Pennywise are heard singing “Oranges and Lemons” followed by a loud laugh from the evil clown. IT is not dead, he’s just resting.

Fans of Stephen King’s book will know that the IT movie only served half the novel, with the rest set those three decades later when the kids are all grown up.

Since the film’s release its director Andy Muschietti has confirmed that a sequel set in present day is being worked on – one that will include an adult Losers Club returning to Derry to defeat Pennywise.

Another thing the end credits teased was that those trapped children’s souls who were singing are still under IT’s influence.

Perhaps this means that adult Bill will come face to face with his dead brother Georgie once again.

Bill Skarsgard is set to return as Pennywise, as are the Losers Club kids for flashbacks.

IT: Chapter Two is expected to be released in 2019.
