North Korea facing ‘RADIOACTIVE APOCALYPSE’ over killer radiation leak fears

If the hermit state continues withs its illicit nuclear program, may have to act fast to prevent the threat of a radiation leak.

carried out its sixth nuclear test earlier this month sparking fears of World War 3 breaking out.

But as Kim Jong-un continues to build up his nuclear arsenal, experts have warned if tests continue at the mountain-side site of Punggye-ri disaster could strike.

Paik Hak-soon, a senior researcher at the Sejong Institute, warned further tests in the North Hamgyong province could spell a major disaster for the regime that could have deadly consequences.

Wang Naiyan, a nuclear weapons researcher in Beijing, told the : “We call it taking the roof off.

”If the mountain collapses and the hole is exposed, it will let out many bad things.”

China said the tests pose a “huge threat” to the region in terms of a possible radiation leak.

North Korea tested what it claims was its sixth and most powerful exercise to date, after detonating a hydrogen bomb more than five times more deadly than the blast at Hiroshima.

And the test explosions are continuing to get bigger than any seen before according to Hans Kristensen, director of the Nuclear Information Project at the Federation of American Scientists.

He said: “The ranges I hear are from 100 to 250 kiloton, depending on who you ask.

“That’s a significant increase from the 10 to 20 kiloton [explosion] they had in previous tests.”

Another researcher warned a radioactive leak is “inevitable”, adding it is just a matter of time before it is detected.

The warnings come as the United Nations voted to extend sanctions on North Korea.

And, expecting relation for the vote, a US senator has now warned Washington prepare for a nuclear attack.

Republican senator Mark Miloscia warned the dangers are increasing with each test as he encouraged lawmakers to throw their weight behind a bid for an emergency response plan during a meeting tomorrow.

His jurisdiction in the state of Washington is one of the closest parts of the US mainland to North Korea.
