IT movie DESTROYS box office records: You WON’T believe how much it made

The blockbuster has been scaring up some serious numbers across the globe this weekend.

After a huge opening night on Thursday, September 8, the movie has continued to gather pace at an alarming rate.

Initial predictions were for a strong $50-60 million opening weekend at in the domestic US market. Andres Muschietti’s reboot of the 1986 Stephen King novel has ripped those figures to shreds.

The IT movie is now the biggest horror movie opening of all time, more than doubling the previous record set by Paranormal Activity 3 back in 2011.

The breakdown of the US audience for the terrifying horror indicates that it is almost 52% female.

Combined with the spectcular figures posted earlier this year for Wonder Woman, it becomes clear that Hollywood needs to address the underrepresented issue of what women want to see beyond the sterotypical romances and comedies.

The audience breakdown also shows that it’s not just teenagers buying repeat tickets who drive huge figures.  Variety reports that two thirds of the filmgoers for IT are over 25.
