Apple Watch Series 3 – Here’s FIVE features we want to see on Apple’s next smartwatch

Apple Watch Series 3 could be unveiled this week

Apple has a major event penciled in few days time with the US technology giant looking set to reveal its next generation of devices.

The main event appears to be the launch of a new iPhone but that may not be all Apple unveils on September 12.

Rumours are rife that, alongside an upgraded smartphone, Apple will also unveil a new smartwatch.

Possibly called the Apple Watch Series 3, this updated wearable could bring plenty of improvements.

Apple confirmed earlier this year that it’s seen record sales for its watch and an upgrade would possibly help to boost its popularity further.

There’s plenty of speculation about what might be included on the Apple Watch Series 3 but here’s five things we think would help to make it the ultimate wearable technology.

SLIMMER DESIGN

Having tested numerous smartwatches we still think Apple’s square face is the best and most practical of the bunch.

Many smartwatch makers have opted for a round face and, whilst this certainly looks good, it does mean you lose a huge amount of screen area on what is already limited space.

So, we don’t want Apple to tinker with the design but it would be nice if the watch was a little thinner.

This would not only make it lighter to wear but would also mean it doesn’t protrude so far off of your wrist.

LONGER BATTERY

Many moaned when Apple first announced a one-day battery life on the Watch.

However, with most people removing their jewellery at night it isn’t too much of a bother to place it on a charger before bed.

With average use we’ve also been able to squeeze around two days out of our Apple Watch without going near a plug.

However, head away for a weekend without a charger and your very expensive watch can end up becoming a pretty useless piece of tech.

There’s also the issue of sleep tracking as some other devices, with week-long batteries, are able to monitor how much shut-eye you get – something you can’t do if the your Apple Watch is charging.

If Apple could manage a three or four day battery life it would certainly be a welcomed addition to many who wear it.

ALWAYS-ON DISPLAY

It’s something we’ve been wishing for since the first Apple Watch was unveiled in 2015.

An always-on display would mean users could glance at the device and see the time without having to raise their wrists.

Apple’s motion technology is very good and a slight movement almost always results in the screen leaping into life.

However, there are still occasions when the display stays blank and an always-on display would mean the end of this irritating issue.

Apple says that battery life could be compromised by including always-on technology so this could be one feature we won’t see arriving anytime soon.

LOWER PRICE

Like most Apple products the Apple Watch certainly isn’t cheap.

The latest Series 2 device, which is now waterproof, starts from £369 and can rise to over £1,000 if you opt for the Ceramic or Hermes models .

If Apple could produce a slightly cheaper Series 3 model that included waterproofing it would surely be hugely popular and make wearable tech far more mainstream.

NO NEED FOR AN iPHONE

Some recent reports have suggested that the new Apple Watch will include LTE support.

This means it will feature a SIM card and allow calls and messages to be sent without the need for an iPhone connection.

Mobile 4G data would also be available, allowing music and apps to be streamed on the move – an ideal feature for fitness and running fanatics.
