Nadal has now extended his winning head-to-head record against Del Potro 9-5.
The Argentinian was triumphant on that occasion, just as he was in China the time before that, improving his record against the world No 1 from 3-8 to 5-8.
One of his other wins, perhaps the most famous won, came at this same venue, when he won for the loss of just six games to reach the US Open final in 2009, where he beat Roger Federer.
