PS5 release date boost: Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch WON’T be getting this new game

The PS5 release date may not materialise for sometime as Sony look for maximum return from the popular PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles.

Both are selling well by the tech giant’s standard and would likely see a drop in sales if a new console was announced.

There are those that believe Sony are priming a big announcement for the second-half of next year, while others that they’re waiting for 4K TVs to become more common.

And while Sony have confirmed that they do plan to launch some kind of PS5 model to take over from the PS4, there’s no guarantee on how long we’ll have to wait for it.

But something that we can expect the PS5 to take advantage of is new games that won’t be available on Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch.

According to the latest news from Square Enix, the company’s next big Final Fantasy project will be skipping current consoles and arriving on what comes next.

That means the PS5 and Xbox 2, or whatever Microsoft deems to call their next big gaming machine.

This was revealed during a recent interview with Dualshockers, who spoke with Director Hajime Tabata during PAX West in Seattle.

“Tabata-san explained that for its future projects, the team is not looking at the current generation of consoles, but at the next,” Dualshockers reveals.

“While the Windows Edition of Final Fantasy XV represents the current level of technological achievement for the studio, their sights are “set to the future where they can go even higher.”

“It’s worth mentioning that Tabata-san gave no indication or even a hint that the project he’s talking about is a Final Fantasy game. As far as we know, it could be something else entirely.

“Incidentally, he also mentioned that the team might do something more with virtual reality on top of Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV.”

This could also mean more support for the PlayStation VR, which is likely going to at least be compatible with the PS5.

In June, it was confirmed that more than 1 million headsets had been sold by Sony.

And President and CEO, Shawn Layden, has said that he believes sales will steadily pick up this year due to the increased availability and stock levels.

As mentioned above, the Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch would almost certainly miss out on what comes next from Square Enix.

So far, we have no idea what will follow Microsoft’s upgraded gaming machine, however, it’s likely that strong sales of the Xbox One X could convince them that players appreciate power.

The Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, is set to be a successful new addition to the console market that’s actually exempt from the current power battle between PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Everyone knows from the get-go that the hybrid gaming machine will never pack the same punch as either console.

Analysts have made some prediction over what Nintendo could do later in the Switch lifecycle, suggesting that a more powerful version could be launched.

And it appears that there are others looking to the next generation of gaming devices for their own games.

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has reportedly revealed that GT Sport will have a development cycle that’s built to futureproof it for the next console cycle.

Yamauchi reportedly told Finder.com: “It takes six months to create a single car. It’s over-specced for PS4 Pro.

“So we are building for future versions of the console rather than the one we see today. I think it would be no problem to run it at 8K even.”
