Ederson and Sadio Mane collided as the Liverpool forward attempted to win a through-ball in their match with Manchester City today.
Mane’s foot caught the Brazil international in the face, leading to a 10-minute stoppage before the goalkeeper went off on a stretcher.
Ederson went to hospital amid fears he had suffered a broken bone, however, he later revealed he had not received a serious injury.
And Mane has issued an apology to the 24-year-old, insisting he did not mean to cause the keeper any harm.
“I hope and wish Ederson a quick recovery,” he wrote on Facebook.
“I am so sorry he was hurt during our accidental collision on the pitch and am sorry for him that he could not complete the match because of it.
“I pray he heals fast and is back playing very soon.”
Ederson is expected to miss City’s Champions League clash with Feyenoord on Wednesday (7.45pm) but he allayed fans’ fears after the match.
“Hello everyone. I’m OK, is a shock. Important victory. We thank you all for the messages,” he wrote on Twitter.
And Pep Guardiola gave the all clear after the match and praised the 24-year-old for his first-half display.
“The doctor says there is nothing broken,” Guardiola said.
“He also saved us in the first half from Mohamed Salah.”
