Jennifer Lawrence on Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! script: ‘F***ed up and seriously wrong’

The new psychological horror has caused quite a stir since it premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

Mother! may have been booed by the audience there,

Despite the controversy, the roots of the new film’s shock factor began when Lawrence first read the script.

Speaking with EMPIRE, the 27-year-old starred admitted how she threw Aronofsky’s script across the room after reading it.

Lawrence said she texted the director, who is now her boyfriend: “There is something seriously wrong with you.”

However, the next day replied: “By the way, it’s a masterpiece.”

She added: “There was a full 24 hours where everybody thought I had turned it down in a really huge way.

“But it was like reading poetry or scripture, or Darren’s diaries: excerpts from a f***ed-up mind.”

The official synopsis reads: “A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.

“From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.”

Mother! is released in UK cinemas on September 15, 2017.
