Final Fantasy 7 Remake UPDATE – Could big release date reveal happen this week?

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of the most eagerly anticipated PS4 games, and fans have been left hoping release date news could be revealed this week.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced back at E3 2015 to much fanfare, but since then news on the FF7 revival has been few and far between.

Back in February this year, the game’s director Tetsuya Nomura revealed new screenshots which showed the battle system’s menu for the upcoming JRPG.

A few months later Nomura-san said that there would be radio silence for “a while” on Final Fantasy 7 Remake news.

This was taking place while development was moved externally to internally.

There are few opportunities left to announce news on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

One opportunity is the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, but Square Enix have said what games are coming to TGS – and the FF7 Remake is not one of them.

However, there are a few ideal opportunities left to announce Final Fantasy 7 Remake news – and one is just around the corner.

Tomorrow, Final Fantasy 7 celebrates 20 years since it was first released in North America.

Landmarks like these seem ideally placed for major announcements.

And while Square Enix have not announced any events for tomorrow, fans will be left hoping they make a surprise announcement.

If September 7 comes and passes with no more news on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, there are a few other dates where an announcement could be made.

November 17 marks 20 years since Final Fantasy 7 was released on the original PlayStation.

Europe was the last territory to receive FF7, so that date a few months from now is the last landmark anniversary this year.

However, Square instead could leave it till the PlayStation Experience 2017 event to make a big FF7 Remake reveal.

That is scheduled to take place on December 9 and 10.

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida previously said Sony chose not to reveal some triple AAA games at E3 2017 as they were saving them for later.

Speaking in June, he said: “There are things we have held [back], Yoshida said. “We chose not to show those at E3 2017, but there will be some more news coming out from our teams later this year.

“No question.”

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake, along with The Last of Us 2, are arguably two of the biggest PS4 releases on the horizon.

So Sony could be saving a Final Fantasy 7 Remake announcement towards the end of the year to end 2017 on a high note.

The news comes after Express.co.uk revealed how Nintendo Switch fans will be left hoping the FF7 Remake could come to the hit hybrid console.

In a recent interview with DualShockers, Hajime Tabata, the director of Final Fantasy 15, revealed tests were carried out on the Switch for Unreal Engine 4.

Unreal Engine 4 is the engine that has been used to create the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The fact that the Unreal Engine 4 runs well on the Nintendo Switch bodes well for a possible FF7 Remake release date.

When the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was first announced back at E3 2015, the jaw-dropping trailer said at the end ’Play it first on PlayStation’.

This implied that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was coming out on PS4 and PS4 Pro as a timed exclusive, and would later be out on other platforms.

Square Enix are already supporting the Nintendo Switch, with I Am Setsuna out at the moment and a Dragon Quest XI release on the horizon.

And seeing that the FF7 Remake could be a multi-platform release, a Switch version could be a distinct possibility if it handles Unreal Engine 4 well.
