Carl Frampton confirms new trainer Jamie Moore after Barry and Shane McGuigan split

Frampton had previously been trained by Shane McGuigan, whose father Barry worked as the Northern Irish featherweight’s manager.

However, Frampton ditched the McGuigan-run Cyclone Promotions earlier this year and has confirmed today on social media that he will be working with Moore as his trainer.

“Great to have linked up with my new trainer @JamieMoore777,” Frampton posted on Twitter.

“The start of a new chapter in my career.”

The 30-year-old is a two-weight world champion but lost his unbeaten record in a rematch with Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas.

The January defeat saw him lose the WBA featherweight title as well but he was due to return to the ring in July against Mexico’s Andres Gutierrez in a WBC eliminator fight.

But Gutierrez slipped in the shower damaging his face a cheek just hours before the fight and had to cancel the bout after he was not given medical clearance to compete.

Frampton and Gutierrez were both keen to reschedule the fight but three weeks later it was called off completely.

And it was in the aftermath of the cancellation that Frampton confirmed he would be changing the team around him.

“I would like to thank Barry, the McGuigan family and Cyclone Promotions for our time together,” Frampton said last month.

“I still believe that I’m the best featherweight in the world and I promise my fans that I am continuing with my efforts to get my homecoming fight rescheduled in the very near future.”
