Dele Alli: Tottenham star condemned for swearing at referee during England vs Slovakia

Alli made a gesture towards French official Clement Turpin in the second half of the match at Wembley after he felt he deserved a free kick following an altercation with Slovakia defender Martin Skrtel.

The Tottenham man was not punished during the game but could be if Clement includes it in his report.

Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon says Alli will see himself in hot water if the referee saw the act.

“We have to talk about it because it’s on live TV,” Dixon said on ITV.

“It’s there, it’s in your face, everybody saw it.

“The referee’s got a view of him walking towards him and if he’s looking at that, and I’m pretty sure he says something when he gets substituted, there’s a little chat going on there.

“If the referee has seen it and it’s in his report, he’s going to be in trouble.”

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs says Tottenham‘s Alli is the type of player who “plays on the edge” and it was just built out of frustration.

Giggs said: “He is one of those players who plays on the edge.

“We always say it, he’s at his best when he plays on the edge.

“He can be a bit nasty which he have complimented him for, it gives him that edge.

“I do like him, he’s come through the leagues, he’s done it the hard way. We’re not condoning that but he does live on the edge.

“A lot of that was frustration that he’s not getting played the ball by his team-mates.”

Ian Wright says Alli must cut this type of behaviour out of his game before next year’s World Cup in Russia.

“Now he’s in the dressing room he’ll be thinking ‘gosh, what have I done there?’” Wright said.

“Someone will have a word and they’ll have to because like you say you don’t want that to happen in the tournament because it’s costly, it’s very, very costly.”

England won the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford.
