North Korea’s nuclear test site targeted by live missile drill after Kim detonates H-bomb

The military training involved long-range air-to-surface missiles and ballistic missiles, South Korea’s joint chiefs of staff said in a statement.

And more drills are being prepared with the US forces, the statement continued.

The news comes after US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis warned the US would respond to any attack on the United States or its allies by North Korea.

North Korea on Sunday moring conducted its most powerful nuclear test to date – five times more powerful than the weapon used on Hiroshima at the end of the Second World War.

US Commanders have spent the evening briefing the President on “every” military option to tackle North Korea.

Following the lengthy discussions, General Mattis appeared in front of the White House and issued a terrifying warning to the rogue state.

He said despot leader Kim Jong-Un should remember the US is capable the “total annihilation” of North Korea, and has the options to carry such a threat out.

Speaking outside the White House, he said: “Any threat to the United States or its territories, including Guam or our allies will be met with a massive military response, a response both effective and overwhelming.

“Kim Jong-un should take heed of the UN Security Council’s unified voice.

He added: ”All members unanimously agree on the threat North Korea poses and remain unanimous in their commitment to denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

“We are not looking to the total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea, but, as I said, we have many options to do so.”

Kim Jong-un ordered the nation’s sixth nuclear test as tensions continue to escalate with the US.

According to North Korea’s state media the test was a “perfect success” and a “meaningful” step in completing the country’s nuclear weapons programme.

It added: ”The H-bomb test was carried out to examine and confirm the accuracy and credibility of the power control technology and internal structural design newly introduced into manufacturing the H-bomb to be placed as the payload of the ICBM.”

North Korea officials claimed the device could be mounted on its newly developed intercontinental ballistic missiles – which experts have said are capable of reaching the US.
