The Everton midfielder made all the headlines on transfer deadline day as he looked to secure a last-minute move away from Goodison Park.
Widespread reports suggested Barkley had rejected the chance to join Chelsea after changing his mind mid-way though his medical.
Other reports suggested he had failed the medical.
Chelsea and Everton had already agreed a £35million fee but Barkley pulled the plug on a deal at the last minute.
Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri said Barkley had a medical at Chelsea’s Cobham base — but both Chelsea and sources close to the player insist that was never the case.
And the England international has taken to Twitter to clear up the situation.
He tweeted: “Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point
“I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit.
“Thanks for all of the support.”
Tottenham’s interest in Barkley is also thought to have been an influencing factor in his decision to wait until January with the midfielder keen to link up with Mauricio Pochettino.
Barkley has battled with a hamstring injury all summer that is likely to see him on the sidelines until November after undergoing surgery a fortnight ago.
The 23-year-old will now stay at Ronald Koeman’s side and reconsider his next move during the January transfer window.
