Final Fantasy 7 Remake BLOW – Bad news for FF7 fans hoping for release date update

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of the most eagerly anticipated games on the horizon, with PS4 fans hoping for a release date soon.

It had been hoped that the first episode in the revival of the PS1 classic could come out this year – as it’s Final Fantasy’s 30th anniversary.

This year is also the 20th birthday for Final Fantasy 7, with the game first coming out in Japan on January 31 1997.

However, this year is fast drawing to a close with new information on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake drying up.

The last time we got to see a new glimpse of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was back in February when new screenshots were published.

The FF7 Remake pictures, revealed by Square Enix at the Monaco Anime Game International Conference 2017, gave an insight into the game’s battle system.

E3 2017 looked the perfect opportunity to reveal more information on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but that came and went with no news.

The upcoming Tokyo Game Show, set to be held on September 21 and 24, looks like one of the last opportunities this year to reveal FF7 Remake news.

However, in a blow to fans, Square Enix have revealed which games are heading to the Japanese gaming extravaganza.

And the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is NOT one of them.

The line-up of Square Enix games heading to the Tokyo Game Show 2017, as reported by Gematsu, includes the following:

• Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (PS4)

• The Evil Within 2 (PS4)

• Dragon Quest X: 5,000 Year Journey to a Faraway Hometown Online (PS4, Switch, Wii U, PC)

• Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius (iOS, Android)

• Final Fantasy XIV Online (PS4, PC, Mac)

• Final Fantasy XV (PS4, Xbox One)

• Lost Sphear (PS4, Switch)

• Secret of Mana (PS4, PS Vita, PC)

Despite this apparent blow, there are a few things that Final Fantasy 7 Remake fans can remain hopeful about.

On the last day of the Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix’s final event will focus on the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary.

And if they want to go out with a bang – they’ll surely reveal more on the FF7 Remake.

Alternatively, there are a few more milestones coming up that would be perfect for Square Enix to reveal more on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Next week, Final Fantasy 7 will celebrate 20 years since it was first released in North America.

FF7 came out on the original PlayStation in the US on September 7 1997. The JRPG classic was then released in Europe on November 17 1997.

Either of those two dates seem like great milestones for Square Enix to reveal more on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The radio silence on the FF7 Remake comes after the game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, said there would be no more updates for “a while”.

Speaking to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu in July, he said: “Although there are parts [of Final Fantasy VII Remake] further along than Kingdom Hearts III, such as cutscenes, it is unlikely we’ll share information for a while as we switch from mainly external to mainly internal development.”

While Square Enix’s boss Yosuke Matsuda recently said the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of a number of titles that would have a release date by the end of 2020.

That would mean that the Final Fantasy 7 revival could launch FIVE years after it was first announced at E3 2015.

That announcement, made during Sony’s PlayStation event, left fans speechless and some in attendance close to tears.
