Real Madrid Transfer News: Aubameyang push back on because of Mbappe failure

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane insists he is happy with his current squad.

But the opportunity to land Aubameyang may be too tempting to turn down, claims Spanish football expert Hunter.

Mbappe is close to agreeing a massive move from Monaco to PSG today.

It means Real have had to change their transfer plans, with Borussia Dortmund’s Aubameyang reinstalled as their top forward target.

“For so long (Aubameyang) was a high priority for the president,” Hunter told talkSPORT.

“Zidane originally put the stops to it because he wasn’t his kind of player. They went all out for Mbappe and Aubameyang dropped off the list.

“But Mbappe is now definitely going to join PSG – originally on loan with a guaranteed buy next summer.

“Mbappe was in 2012 visiting Madrid, was shown round by Zidane and introduced to Cristiano Ronaldo. There were many meetings between Mbappe’s father and Zidane.

“Until very recently it looked as though Real would get Mbappe and Aubameyang dropped off the list for that reason.

“But Zidane doesn’t want or need to improve his squad.

“But the hard fact is strengthen where you can on deadline day. They’ve shipped out Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez this summer. That’s 31 goals scored last season. That’s a very big loss.”

Aubameyang has hit top form for Dortmund in each of the last two Bundesliga seasons.

However, the German side don’t want to sell and have banked £135m from the sale of Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona.

And Hunter doubts a move will happen before Spain’s transfer window shuts at 11pm tomorrow.

“It would be surprising if Aubameyang was to be done by tomorrow,” he added.

“But there was a stage six months ago when it looked like Florentino Perez was his backer.”
