What is Hajj?

All adult Muslims are expected to make the trip to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.

The word ‘Hajj’ means ‘to intend a journey’, representing the physical distance Muslims travel, but also the internal battles they overcome.

In Mecca, pilgrims take part in various rituals such as Tawaf and Sa’ee where pilgrims walk between two hills seven times.

During the Hajj, pilgrims are expected to shed symbols of materialism and required to wear white hiram garments – symbolic of their purity.

Muslims around the world will mark the end of the Hajj with a celebration called Eid al-Adha.
