Just moments after President Trump tweeted to confirm he is en route to the disaster-struck state, a Texas official claimed that the Addicks Dam outside Houston has begun overspilling as Storm Harvey pushes the reservoir past capacity.
Engineers have tried to stop nearby communities from being devastated by releasing some of the water held by the dam, but flood control official Jeff Linder has admitted the water levels have now surpassed the height of the reservoir edge.
Heavy floods have ravaged the America’s second largest state for days, with thousands forced to flee their homes.
So far, nine people are believed to have lost their lives as a result of the horrendous conditions.
