Sony PlayStation update: PS4 gamers get big PSVR price cut news… with a catch

It was announced today that Sony PlayStation are launching a new PSVR bundle that includes the PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation Camera.

This will reduce the price for interested PSVR PS4 gamers, while there are also other collections for fans to check out.

The existing PlayStation VR Worlds bundle (PS VR headset, PS Camera, two PlayStation Move motion controllers and PlayStation VR Worlds) will also be available at a new lower price.

This includes the PSVR, PS camera, two Move controllers, and Sony’s PlayStation Worlds games collection.

Both bundles will go on sale September 1, but only in the United States and Canada.

However, so far there’s been no news on similar deals coming to Europe, meaning fans in the UK look set to miss out.

The PlayStation VR Worlds bundle will cost $449 USD (MSRP) / $579 CAD (MSRP), while the core bundle will retail at $399 USD (MSRP) / $499 CAD.

“On the horizon, we’ve got a great lineup of games, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, Sparc, Bravo Team and The Inpatient,” a message from Sony explains.

“The system itself also continues to evolve, as we just announced that the latest PS4 system software update 5.00 will include some enhancements for PS VR like 5.1ch and 7.1ch virtual surround sound in Cinematic Mode.”

“We hope you get a chance to pick up a PS VR system and step into amazing virtual worlds.”

While the earlier price may have frustrated gamers who were interested in trying out Virtual Reality on the PS4 and PS4 Pro, it does make sense why Sony have only just dropped the price.

PSVR is going to be a feature that the tech giant will be moving over to the PS5 whenever they decide to make the next generational leap.

So it makes sense that they wouldn’t want to prematurely reduce it at retail.

There’s also the fact that all the other major VR headsets have seen price drops this year.

It was revealed earlier this month that HTC were dropping the Vive down to $599, a hefty drop of around $200.

There was also the Oculus Rift summer sale which saw the price of the headset drop to $499.

This has now been confirmed as a permanent reduction and may have spurned its competitors to follow suit.
