Kim Jong-un has long argued he is the victim of US and South Korean aggression – using the lies to his people as an excuse to draft them into the military and continually expand his arsenal of nuclear missiles.
But the tyrannical ruler has risked triggering World War 3 by running military drills in preparation for a hostile takeover of a South Korean Island.
His trial assaults come as the US and South Korea engage in military war games of their own, preparing for a potential attack from the Northern dictatorship.
In a simulated attack on South’s border islands of Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong, warplanes rained fury down on targets while missile launchers and howitzers barraged the landscape of the mocked up war zone.
Troops performed parachute drops onto the Northern territory in a test run of tactics which could e used in an attack on the south.
Others snuck into position on rubber dinghies, before enveloping their South Korean ‘targets’ in flames.
State media claimed the young despot “expressed great satisfaction” following the “target-strike” contest.
He added his troops “should think of mercilessly wiping out the enemy with arms only and occupying Seoul at one go and the southern half of Korea”, state media KCNA claimed.
The news of the drills comes amid colossal tensions in the region after the Hermit Kingdom launched several projectiles off its east coast towards the Sea of Japan.
The South Korean military initially reported the launch as an unidentified projectile, claiming it had travelled around 155miles (250km).
A later statement from Seoul said North Korea had fired several short-range projectiles into the sea, with Japanese officials reporting the munitions may have been ballistic missiles.
According to the US military, North Korea’s three short-range missile launches appeared to have either failed in flight or exploded almost immediately.
US Pacific Command from its Hawaii headquarters said: “The first and third missiles at 11.49am (10.49pm BST) and 12.19pm (11.19pm BST) failed in flight.
“The second missile launch at 12.07pm (11.07pm BST) appears to have blown up almost immediately.”
The South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the “unidentified projectile” was fired from a site in North Korea’s eastern province of Gangwon.
