Pound coin: Do you have THIS rare £1 worth a small fortune hiding in your wallet?

The pound coin, that is worth much more than it’s £1 value, was designed as a celebration of the UK’s capital cities.

Imgur user Givemeyourhate, an avid coin collector, posted an image of his capital cities £1 coin.

He told users the site: “I’ve seen this one fetch up to £30 on Ebay. Think I’ll wait a few years :)”

The coin was cited in 2010 and is one of a number of coins with similar designs.

Royal Mint said of the coin: “2010 saw the launch of an entirely new £1 coin series which focused on the four capital cities of the UK – the ‘City Series’.

“It was the first time in a ‘home countries’ £1 coin series that two coins were released in the same year.”

In 2010 the London and Belfast coins were released, and in 2011 the Cadriff and Edinburgh versions were released.

“The motto of the arms, DOMINE DIRIGE NOS – translated as ‘Lord, deliver us’ – features as the edge inscription for the London £1 coin,” Royal Mint states.

While the individual London coin has gone for over £30 online according to Givemeyourhate, sets of all four coins are currently for sale with starting bids of £15 on Ebay.

Another £1 con with a common design could in fact be worth a princely sum.

The Royal Arms is one of the most recognisable designs seen on sterling in the UK.

It was issued in 1983, and went through four further re-issues.

But there is one in particular that is worth significantly more than one pound.

The 2008 version is the third rarest of all one pound coins, with 3.9million made.

And thanks to its rarity, 2008 Royal Arms one pound coins can fetch up to £15 on eBay.
