Griezmann wants United

19:10: Antoine Griezmann wants to join Manchester United, claims La Liga expert Guillem Balague.

What I’ve been saying all along is that Griezmann is open to the possibility of moving, not just to Manchester United but to any top club,” he told Sky Sports.

“He will do that every summer because he realises that benefits him, whether that be through getting a new deal or getting a move.

“He is happy in Madrid but he will play with the United fans and tease them.

“Does that mean he wants to move there? Of course.

United better off without Zlatan

15:47: Paul Merson reckons Manchester United are better off without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who yesterday signed a new one-year deal at Old Trafford.

Merson told Sky Sports: “This man is a legend, I don’t use that word loosely, he’s an absolute legend, he’s won titles in seven different countries, you don’t do that by luck.

“But as time moves on now, Manchester United are a better team without him in it, and they’ve got a better chance of winning the Premier League without him.”

Mourinho refuses to think about Zlatan

14:20: Jose Mourinho has refused to discuss the importance of Manchester United re-signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“He will not be ready for the group phase of the Champions League, I don’t think there is any chance of that,” Mourinho said.

“I’m not thinking Zlatan to play any part of the group phase, hopefully he can play in the knockout phase but for that we need to finish top two.

“I don’t want to think about it, I don’t even ask, speak about it or with the medical team about it.

“He will be an extra man for us in the second part of the season. When I say second part, we say January after Christmas, when the transfer window reopens but I have no idea at all.

“It shows two things for me, it shows me the dimension of the player and the club.

“The player it would be very easy for him to say goodbye. He had success at Man United, goodbye. He doesn’t do that, he wants to follow his other dreams and play football at the highest level.

“And a club like Man United in my opinion has to show how big it is in details and this is a big detail of a player that gets injured with the Man United shirt, fighting for Man United. The club has to be there for him and I’m really happy with club and player.”

Turan linked to Man Utd

12:48: Arda Turan is free to leave Barcelona and Manchester United are keen on a deal, claim the Guardian.

Turan has failed to make the grade at Barca since joining them in 2015.

The Turkey international was supposedly one of the players Barca were hoping to use in a deal to sign Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

But the Reds don’t want to sell Coutinho nor sign Turan.

It is claimed United manager Jose Mourinho is an ‘ardent admirer’ of 30-year-old Turan.

Wrong to let Evans and Keane go – Higginbotham

10:45: Manchester United were wrong to sell Jonny Evans and Michael Keane during Louis van Gaal’s time in charge, according to Danny Higginbotham.

Manchester United allowed Keane to leave for Burnley in 2014 after Louis van Gaal deemed him surplus to requirements.

And Evans jumped ship 12 months later, with the club allowing him to depart despite him being a popular figure on and off the pitch.

When him and Michael Keane went, it was wrong to let them go,” he told Sky Sports.

“Keane was still developing and Evans had never let them down. It was not a fantastic point at Manchester United letting both of them go.

“He’s [Evans] shown he’s more than good enough playing for West Brom and the better team you play for the better you look.

“But if he was to join Man City then he’d get even better.”

Lemar wants United deal – Castles

10:00: Monaco winger Thomas Lemar would prefer to join Manchester United over Arsenal, according to Duncan Castles.

Manchester United and Arsenal have both been tipped to lure Lemar away from Monte Carlo this transfer window.

And the Red Devils’ path to the winger was left clear yesterday with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger conceding defeat in his bid to land the 21-year-old.

It represented a bitter blow to Arsenal fans, who had been hoping to see the 21-year-old move to the Emirates this summer.

But Castles says a Monaco contact has informed him Lemar would rather join United than their Premier League counterparts – and suggested it is why the Gunners have stopped pursing a deal.

“I had a chat with a Monaco contact last night, asking where things stood, he said the Lemar deal was very much on the table as far as they’re concerned,” he told the Transfer Window podcast.

“It is a possibility he leaves if the transfer fee they’re looking for (60m) is met.

“The interesting bit of information is I asked where Lemar would prefer to go, whether it’s Arsenal or Manchester United.

“And he was very clear. Lemar wants to go to Manchester United.”

Gomes to Juventus over United

09:32: Manchester United look set to miss out on a deal for Barcelona’s Andre Gomes.

Gomes has requested to leave Barcelona after struggling for form and game time last season.

But he won’t be heading to Old Trafford, as Juventus open talks over a deal for the 24-year-old.

Tuttosport claim Juve and Barca chiefs discussed a deal during the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco yesterday.

Juve want to sign the player on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Sancho snubs United

09:05: Manchester City youngster Jadon Sancho will snub Manchester United and Arsenal in favour of Tottenham, reports claim.

According to ESPN FC, Sancho wants to leave the Etihad and hopes to find a clearer pathway to first-team football.

The 17-year-old is believed to have snubbed City’s £30,000-a-week offer because he feels that he’s got a better chance of breaking through to senior level under Mauricio Pochettino.

Zlatan had other offers

08.00: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed he turned down other offers before signing a new one-year deal at Manchester United.

Ibrahimovic’s return to United was announced yesterday after his quick progress from injury.

And he admitted that other clubs wanted ‘Ibra-kadabra’.

“I come back to finish what I started,” Ibrahimovic told ESPN FC.

“We had couple of teams [interested in me] but, I mean there was couple of teams reaching out, wanted to ‘Ibra-kadabra’ in their team, but I had such a great year with United, we had a great year, we won three trophies.

“Fantastic guys, great club. A coach that I’ve known from before. I was happy. It’s not always about the sportive thing.

“You choose when you sign for a club, and I’m in a situation where I have to think 360 degrees around me.

“Everybody is happy about this and I’m super-happy. Happiness has no value and this year I play for free, just like last year.”

Manchester United: Jose Mourinho has his side looking good two games into the season

Lukaku bargain

07.45: Romelu Lukaku was a bargain, according to Shay Given.

Lukaku has scored three goals in two Premier League games for United since joining from Everton.

And Given thinks with the prices being paid this summer Lukaku could be a bargain.

“It’s difficult to say he’s a £75m bargain but look at the stats,” Given said on Sky Sports.

“Look at Coutinho, he’s now at £130m. Lukaku is an out-and-out goalscorer, a centre-forward. He’s perfect for Manchester United.

“Had Manchester United left it this late in the window, with Neymar going for £200m, what could Everton have demanded for Lukaku knowing that Manchester United are desperate to sign him?

“The figure could be £20m or £30m on top of what they paid for him.

Nine contracts up in 12 months

07.30: Manchester United have nine players out of contract next summer, meaning Ed Woodward will need to start work on new deals for the ones the club want to keep.

Some of those are unlikely to get new deals – including Michael Carrick, Ashley Young and Sam Johnstone – while others in Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Ander Herrera have an option for another year.

But Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and Andreas Pereira will need negotiating with if the club want them to stay.

Following a busy summer for Woodward, where he signed three new players and re-signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the work will begin on his current squad members.
